Is the moon powerful? Yes. Does the moon’s power affect us? Of course!

The moon

The moon’s gravity is the force behind the oceans having tidal ebbs and flows. Gallons of water pulled inwards and outwards towards the sand and the rocks of the world’s many beaches, it stands to reason that we are affected because as we are mainly made up of water. It may not have a visible effect on us as it does the ocean but history shows that it has consistently been harnessed to support humanity. Our ancestors would observe the rhythms of the moon and many women’s monthly cycles would fall in line with it, people would only undergo surgery on a specific date according to the specific condition and certain plants would flourish better if planted in alignment with the moon’s energy. In many developing countries today they use the moon cycle daily to dictate when to host an event through to when they will eat.

Why is this relevant to me in a modern developed world? It is relevant because although the world has developed us humble humans still, have the same biology and physiology. The universal power can penetrate through all the technology, but the technology and constant high stress can cause us to feel frazzled and fraught and detached from that power. With something so close that has the ability to dictate oceans regardless of whether we are in the developed or undeveloped world working with this power is surely more beneficial than going against it!

As I discussed in the ‘Woman’ Diet Special magazine (January 2016), fasting when there is a New Moon and Full Moon has been observed for centuries using the moons power to enhance this effective body cleanse. This process, however, does often have the added benefit of a few pounds being shed alongside the huge benefits of supporting our bodies through keeping them clean. It is claimed that you can lose up to 7lbs each fast but the primary motivation of this practise is to cleanse and boost your immunity. Fasting allows the body to rest and this rest period wakes up the repair genes which is very useful because our bodies get bombarded daily with toxins from our food right through to the air we breathe so taking time to readdress the balance will support the body’s natural healing abilities. Our body’s ability to detox is much higher when there is a full moon so fasting in alignment with the moon cycle will further enhance your natural balance that processed foods and stress disrupt.

So by fasting two days a month in line with the moon and consuming only liquids you can follow ‘The Moon Alignment Approach for Well Being’ and reap the benefits!

The Simple Steps!

1) Initially check out www.calender-365.co.uk for the New Moon and Full Moon dates each month.

2) Ensure you have water, lots, of water around to aid the detoxification process.

3) Decide on the juices, smoothies, broths and simple soups you will consume on your fast days.

4) Fast in a mindful manner, avoid gulping down the fluids but stop between sips, breather slowly and consciously On the fast days try to get through the day by practising mindfulness, reminding yourself of the benefits to your body, taking your time over consuming the liquid and not rushing, remember its only two days a month! I am a big advocate of mindfulness so if this is your thing too then incorporate a little more mindfulness into your fast days and if is not your thing then perhaps this is a great way to start being more so.

Here is an example juice recipe to cleanse your body:

Apple Alignment

Makes: 2 portions

Ingredients: • 3 handfuls of spinach • 500ml water • 2 green apples (cored and chopped) • 250g frozen blueberries • ½ cucumber

Optional: Nature Sunshine Pea Protein Plus bought here: http://everybodybenefits.eu.nspshop.com/search.htm Pea protein is a useful addition to your liquids if you are fasting on a day that you are busy and will need an extra boost.

Method: Place the spinach and water into your blender and blitz first. Then add fruits and veg until smooth, adding additional water depending on the consistency you prefer.

Balance Broth

Makes: 4 cups

Ingredients: • 1 onion • 2 gloves of garlic • 2 sticks of celery • 2 carrots • 2 leeks • 2 tomatoes • 2 sweet potatoes • 10 mushrooms • 1 tbsp fennel seeds • 1 tbsp dried parsley • 1 tsp Himalayan salt • 1 bay leaf • 1 litre of water Method: Bring water to boil and rinse all vegetables and chop into quarters. Add them to water when it is boiling and reduce to simmer. Leave vegetables to simmer for approximately 1 hour then add seasoning and leave to simmer for an additional 20 minutes. Pour broth through and sieve and put vegetables aside (if you would prefer this is a soup leave vegetables in the broth and blend). This broth maybe refrigerated for 3 days.
